The City of Detroit's Flag History

Detroit was settled in 1701. The city was under French and British rule. The flag today still represents the commencement of Detroit. The Seal displays two spirits pointing to the city burning in 1805 and the other pointing to the new city being rebuilt.

Founder's Story ...

Walter was born and raised in Detroit, MI. Walter came from a broken home where his father and mother never married. Walter lost his father to the U.S. prison system due to a felonious act in 1992. Coming from an area where most settle, Walter decided at an early age he wanted to be different. It was hard for Walter to adapt as a fatherless child. From his early childhood stages, Walter understood the importance of a tight knit family and the opportunities that a mother and father could provide for their children. Walter dealt with various psychological issues that stemmed from not having a father in his life. He vowed to be mentally astute, financially secure, and physically capable of raising his own children. Walter also knew from experience in his neighborhood that without council a child would fail; which is exactly what happened to Walter in his teenage years. From age 13 until about age 22, Walter faced many situations that made him feel that the world was against him. He went from trying to be different to forcing himself to adapt to the mean streets and environment of Detroit, MI. Walter stopped reading and began hanging with other adolescents who had no guidance. Walter ran into minor troubles with the authorities and found out the hard way that without education and opportunity, Detroit can consume you. At age 23, after Walter's many trials and tribulations in the streets, he began to become an avid reader and realized the empowerment of literature. From that point forward, he would enforce the literary principles he had picked up in the Rockefeller library at Brown University. Walter now stands in the position mentally to be able to help young children in his community and nationally come to a realization of their true potential.
How I Advanced to Where I am Today ...

Walter James Hart III was born January 10th, 1989. He began his early childhood education at St. Roberts Bellarmine Catholic school in Redford, MI. After leaving St. Roberts in the early childhood developmental stage, his education was continued at a Detroit Public School-Isaac Newton Elementary. From this point on, Walter excelled amongst his classmates maintaining very high grades. Walter graduated from Newton Elementary and advanced to Ludington Magnet Middle School to attend Junior High. At Ludington, Walter continued to excel in education and maintained a G.P.A. of 3.8 and eventually obtaining the perfect mark of 4.0. Walter later graduated Ludington Magnet Middle School and attended the most prominent Detroit Public High School in the city of Detroit-Renaissance High School. At Renaissance, Walter seemed to have lost focus on his education attempting to fit in with the other adolescents. Walter's G.P.A. began to fall and was consistently low compared to his classmates and national competitors. Walter was an athlete playing baseball and falling short of a city Championship at Comerica Park. Having trouble in the classroom, Walter managed to survive Renaissance High School and graduated in 2007 with a partial scholarship to Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina. At Shaw, Walter felt that the curriculum at the school was not challenging enough and the school environment was discomforting. Without parental guidance, Walter decided to transfer to a junior college in Prince George's County Maryland where he was unable to get a grasp of the school and environment. After deciding PGCC was not the place for him, Walter took a trip slightly north to Baltimore meeting Elliott Oppenheim, a junior college baseball coach at Dundalk Junior College. Coach Oppenheim allowed Walter to enroll in school and join his baseball team. To no avail Walter was once again unable to adapt to the rules and environment surrounding him. Walter's next move was to move home and find a job. Walter reunited with his high school sweetheart, Kristina Lukowski. Months later, Walter and Kristina eloped in Johnston, Rhode Island and the process of maturation that took place changed Walter's life forever. Walter began studying in the Rockefeller Library at Brown University, where he felt much more comfortable. With an array of literature laying around, Walter began to usurp as much information as possible. After 3 years in the Rockefeller Library, Walter became the astute Founder and C.E.O. of 2 foundations. Walter began his first endeavor Personal Pals, LLC that rescues canines from being euthanized and trains them for military veterans. Walter's most recent foundation, Peace Detroit is Walter's way of giving back to his community and the inner cities of America. Walter plans to have both organizations operative with the help of various donors, representatives, and a host of astute colleagues.
